Acharya Kanad’s Notion Of Parmanu

We all know that Dalton’s atomic theory was first proposed in 1803, but did you know there was an Indian scientist who had a similar concept of atoms before him? Acharya Kanad’s notion of Parmanu was proposed before Dalton’s theory. The Vaiseṣika Sutra (Vaiseshika sutra), a Vedic text, describes the Parman as the smallest particle of an element that cannot segregate. His theory states all matter comprises atoms, which are indestructible and indivisible. He nar this indivisible particle ‘anu’ that later became ‘amu’, as per Dalton’s theory.
