Ganga Dusshera: How Did Ganga Descent To Earth?

Goddess Ganga is the symbol of purity and forgiveness. Many epics like Mahabharata And Ramayana have mentioned the appearance of the river Ganga. Ganga Dusshera is a festival that celebrates the descent of the river Ganga to earth. It is celebrated in October every year. According to epics, when Lord Shiva went to Kailash Mountain for penance, Goddess Parvati wanted to join him there but she couldn’t go because she was pregnant with Kartikeya (Shiva’s son).

So she asked her brother Vayu (Wind God) to take her there but he refused because he didn’t want his sister to be in the company of a person who was meditating for years. Then Parvati asked her father Himalaya if he could make her brother Vayu agree to her desire. Himalaya said that he would help her as long as she would not ask anything else from him ever again.
