Guru Purnima: Day When The First Guru Was Born

You may have heard the term Guru Purnima before, but do you know why it’s so important? Guru Purnima is a day when Lord Shiva decided to become a guru. It’s a day when Adiyogi transformed into Adiguru, and delivered everything he had to seven sages. ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘ru’ means removal of darkness. Guru Purnima is an ancient Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of the first Guru, Surya (the sun god). The festival occurs on the full moon day in July or August each year.
