Kashi Vishwanath Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The holy Ganga River is adjacent to the temple. It is located in Vishwanath Gali, on the western bank of the Ganges River in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Known as Panch Kedar (five Kedarnaths) Sankat Mochan, Kanasan Devi and Devasthan Bhairav Temple are also located nearby.

It is one of the most important places of worship for both Shaivites and Vaishnavas. It is called the Jyotirlinga or Meru-Linga, which refers to its 12 Jyotirlingas. Since Shiva is also known as Hara (the Destroyer), hence this linga is held in reverence by Hindus even today as he grants salvation to his devotees through a boon given at the end of his grace period (Tandav).
