Shore Temple Mahabalipuram A World Heritage

The Shore Temple complex, built between 705 and 709 AD, is a structural temple. It is one among a number of Hindu monuments at Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram), an ancient port town on the Coromandel Coast of Tamil Nadu state, India. It is considered the finest example of medieval southern Indian temple architecture. Unlike most other temples at Mamallapuram, it is built with stone rather than carved out of caves. Its style – characterized by a pyramidal kutina-type roof – consists of stepped stories topped by a cupola and finial – differs from the traditional north Indian Sikora.
